Department Hosts Two-Day Golf Instructors Training at Windsor Golf Hotel & Country Club (17–18 January 2026)

The Department of Physical Education, Exercise and Sports Science (Kenyatta University) continues to strengthen its commitment to expanding sport offerings, enhancing staff capacity, and supporting the growth of golf in schools and higher education. Since 2023, the Department—through the leadership and sustained engagement of Dr. Juliah Githanga and Mr. Kagunda—has maintained active deliberations with key golf stakeholders, including R & A International Golf Organisation, Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club, and the Kenya Golf Union.

These engagements have yielded encouraging progress toward establishing an esteemed University Golf Programme at Kenyatta University. This programme is envisioned as a pioneering initiative that will position the Department as a leading driver in the development of golf within educational settings, while also strengthening the Department’s profile through strategic partnerships, skills development, and expanded sport programming.

Capacity Building Through Golf Instructors Training

As part of this broader roadmap, R&A in conjunction with the Kenya Golf Union, conducted a Two-Day Community Golf Instructor (CGI) programme held on 17th and 18th January 2026 at Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club.

The training was designed to build foundational and practical instructional capacity among participating staff, focusing on key competencies required for golf instruction and safe, effective session delivery. Participants were required to attend with a notebook and pen.

The training partners, with support from Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club, supported the programme through the provision of golf equipment and other required resources, meals, and a printed certificate for each participant.

Beyond technical instruction, the course also served as an important gateway for staff to engage with golf recreationally, promoting wellness, lifelong participation, and a stronger culture of sport within the University community.
